Saturday – Sturbridge to Bourne - 110 miles At the Start
– 5:30am
Looking
through the pack of ~2,500 riders, ready to go at dawn. Oxford(?)
This house
has been reliable source of early-morning cheering since we started riding
the PMC in 2000. Along the Route Another
heartbreaking/inspiring sign worn by a rider: ÒIn loving memory of my
beautiful daughter Brielle.Ó WeÕve seen his team BrielleÕs Brigade in the PMC for several years. Franklin Waterstop This
is the second water stop of the day. They consistently have a good sense of
humor. Rolling
out of the waterstop I was hoping this might be my
motorcade, but no such luck. Cherry Street,
Wrentham One
year weÕre going to get a good photo of this lady, but apparently not yet. Along the Route Someone
made a point of making flags out of a number of prior-year PMC jerseys and putting
them up along the route in this neighborhood. Great stuff. Along the Route This
family has been reliably inspiring over the past several years. The
glare off the road gives a sense of the heat. While it was only in the mid to
upper 80s, this got to be a very long day. Berkley This
bridge has been under construction for several years now, with a one-way
temporary bridge to get across. This year they detoured cars away from the bridge
to spare drivers heinous delays as the PMC streamed across over several
hours. Massachusetts
Maritime Academy, Bourne And
hereÕs the 110-mile finish line at Mass Maritime. This year as a one-day
rider, no ship photos. Not
too much worse for the wear. Carl
wasnÕt able to ride this year, but collected me and delivered me home a bit
later this afternoon. |
