If a cure for cancer is “closer by the mile,” what’s the answer? More Miles! This year we’re riding 3,600 miles, from Vancouver, BC to Provincetown, MA, as our participation in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (the ”PMC”) to raise money for Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dana-Farber was ranked #4 nationally for cancer care by US News and World Report in July, 2005, and is four-star ranked by Charity Navigator for its efficiency with your contributions. In connection with Canada Metal (Pacific) Ltd, we are also riding in support of Vancouver’s BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Our cross country ride will begin at Canada Metal’s headquarters in Vancouver. We are also teaming with Lister Chain & Forge to support Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. On-line gifts may be made here – please note on the second page that you are supporting Lister’s Coast-to-Coast Challenge. Over the prior six years we’ve raised $120,000 for Dana-Farber. This year we want to raise another $100,000 and we’re asking for your help. We continue to believe that the PMC is a great charity fund-raiser, and that Dana-Farber is most worthy of your support. Prior Years’ rides: - 2005: we rode a bit more than the official PMC route, clocking 215 miles and adding CT to our list of states ridden. - 2004: in celebration of the historic 25th annual PMC, we rode from David’s then-hometown of Cincinnati to join the PMC - a total of 1,054 miles over 11 days! (And no, you don’t want to know about the saddle sores) - 2003, 2002: we rode about 300 miles by adding an extra day and 100 miles, starting from the MA/NY state line. - 2001, 2000: we rode the official PMC route, 192 miles from Sturbridge MA to Provincetown MA over two days. |
